Out Brief of Colorado Conference 09

Those members who attended the first RSKKR Conference this year were not disappointed.  The Colorado mountains were beautiful, the air was thin, but the friendships forged will last a lifetime. Much was shared and learned.  Unique from most seminars experiences and conferences was the theme of Share Fest. Usually a speaker will present only his take on a technique or kata.  Sensei Nix welcomed others views and differing perspectives.  From Brown Belts through Senior Sensei their views on bunkai and principles were presented for the benefit of all.  Differences in Kata were recorded, Okinawan principles defined and presented in demonstration format, and the science of what we do was shown in so many ways.

Seminar Areas Covered:

  • Kata and Bunkai
  • Kobudo and Bunkai
  • Yakasuku Kumite identifying Okinawan Principles of Movement
  • Advanced Self Defense
  • Knife Defense

Others accomplishments:

  • Regional Directors were selected to manage the USA in smaller manageable areas.
  • Technical Advisers were selected to proof new material, reinforce Okinawan Principles, and develop educational products for the regions and dojos.
  • Constitution and Bylaws was edited during Town Hall meetings and voted upon unanimously by all dojo representatives attending.  The entire body assembled signed the last page of the document.

Determinations for future National Conferences:

  • We will continue the Church Camp All-Inclusive model concept for hosting the event.
  • We will hold the events at lower elevations and closer to a major airport.
  • Future events will be 2 ~ 2 1/2 days and no longer.
  • The three focuses of the event schedule will be:
    •  Seminar - for education
    • Town Hall - for federation business
    • Testing for Yudanja
  • Attendance is for brown belts and above.

Regional Directors and Technical Advisers returned from the Conference and have already been working on the USA Chapter of the RSKKR outlining our specific duties and responsibilities. Developing a strategic plan to accomplish the work ahead of us.

Discussions are ongoing on the RSKKR Forum.  Get the updates and take part in your karate career by helping out the directors.  Who are looking at the calendars and seeing when they can fit in one to two additional seminars a year for their region.

Train Well and Be Well All.  To the Best in Training.
